Since he was a child, Sanjeet has been passionate about the world of art. He drew a lot as a child, was in his own world, and went in an abstract direction, with a lot of imagination. He is indeed attracted by the world of dreams, questions about the functioning of the brain, the subconscious.
Sanjeet: It's a dream world where everything is possible. There are no limits. We all have this side in us, but we have to know how to explore it.
Years later, it was in a textile factory in Mauritius that he discovered the world of design workshops. He understood the difference between mass production and limited collections. For any designer, it is a matter of selecting three styles from a collection of about thirty outfits! This is followed by different themes and concepts to create for the next seasons. Sanjeet then settled in Australia, where he attended courses at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology for three years. For his master's degree, he headed to Milan, Italy! Sanjeet is still focused on what he is passionate about: the designer as a person, how to develop his creativity in order to develop a collection based on a theme. But also how to express his creativity and sell his creation in a disciplined way. There are indeed a lot of possibilities, but you have to be able to frame yourself.
In 2012, back in his native island, Mauritius, in order to develop his business as a fashion designer. Guilded Art is born one year later. Through his company, Sanjeet operates as a real workshop, unlike a factory, and oversees three employees.
Today, many individual clients come to him for consultation. Sanjeet and his team pay attention to the smallest details, especially the finishing touches. The final objective is to highlight the woman. Through the various fittings, they must adapt to the requests of the customers, while keeping this dreamy touch which makes the difference. There is a variety of morphologies, and therefore a work around the style of silhouette (which can be in the shape of "i", thus straight, in the shape of pear, triangle, or even inverted trapezoid). The woman's body is complex and at the same time exciting in terms of clothing possibilities. We must always listen to the client, while keeping an open mind. Guilded Art is more than just a creation, it is a symbiosis between the client's desires and the team's creativity. When it comes to working on collections, it is also necessary to adapt to different morphologies. The goal here is to have fun while giving consistency to the collection.
What Sanjeet likes is to listen to the person in front of him, to give life to a creation which corresponds to him, to put in values the requested aspirations. To design for him while leaving him a certain freedom. A psychic alliance. This is the secret of the creator: to know what to emphasize, while keeping a constant open mind.
In this profession, as Sanjeet explains, one never stops learning, whether it is at the level of techniques, sewing, but also at the human and relational levels. His personal touch is to bring out the organic side, to manage to make the woman a "celestial" being, like a chimera. In front of his creations, he likes the fact that we can question ourselves, ask ourselves what we really see. Sanjeet plays with the trompe-œil side, but also with the plays of transparency, depths, color effects and nuanced tones, going from opacity to transparency. He also likes the structured side ending in a fluid way, like candle wax that starts to melt, resulting in a particular shape, a special movement.
Passionate about his job as a fashion designer, Sanjeet is inspired by what surrounds him on a daily basis, by all forms of art (architecture, music...), by natural phenomena such as decomposition, but also by chemical reactions, birth and, above all, by life with a capital V. It is all these influences that he highlights in all his creations.
